24/04/2010 · XP wont boot up. Even the safe mode did not work and the system got freezed at mup.sys file everytime. After much ado and using the link here, I was able to restore the windows back to normal without re-installation. The trick that worked for me: a) Boot the system using the Win XP bootable CD / DVD. b) Go to the Recovery Console. c) At your windows prompt copy the mup.sys file from I386 Boot stops at mup.sys ( win XP ).
